Downing Renewable Developments
Downing Renewable Developments (DRD) is a renewable development team, responsible for identifying suitable renewable energy project opportunities and then undertaking the required grid connection, land agreement and planning processes to obtain successfully developed projects. Following the development phase of the projects, they will then be constructed and operated long term.
Role and responsibilities
The role, based in Glasgow, will be to support in the development and delivery of high-quality renewable energy projects by leading individual tasks and supporting senior team members in other tasks.
In particular, the role-holder will be expected to support and manage key pre-construction and construction activities including grid applications, general engineering activities, procuring and placing contracts, pre-construction activities (such as planning condition discharge), contract administration and reporting, resolution of ad-hoc issues, monitoring technical and HSE compliance and managing the overall delivery of projects until handover to the asset management team. The role-holder will also require to undertake development and operation works that provides the role-holder with all round knowledge of the project life cycle and overall business.
The role-holder is anticipated to have a wide range of technical capability, a real desire to succeed and be able to work autonomously and propose innovative solutions to problems.
Key skills and experience
- Project Management / Engineering / Planning Qualification (degree level as a minimum).
- Minimum of 7 years experience within the renewable energy industry
- Strong experience of project management and leading the development and delivery of projects at various stages in the project lifecycle including the delivery of windfarms, grid connections, solar PV or battery storage projects (experience in other industries with suitable transferrable skills will also be considered).
- Experience of contract preparation, negotiation and administration including tracking contract performance, managing payment processes and management of contract deliverables.
- Experience of working with grid operators and managing the delivery of grid connections.
- Experience of managing project stakeholders including regulators, statutory consultees and local communities.
- An understanding of project financial management, project economics, energy markets and, in particular, the opportunities presented by new technologies.
- Understanding of and able to implement quality assurance processes
- Understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation applicable to construction projects particularly CDM
- Experience of UK consenting processes
- Experience in the use of technical software (such as AutoCAD, GIS, PVSyst)
- An ability to anticipate project issues and propose creative solutions.
- An ability to translate technical detail into commercial impact.
- An ability to manage several project tasks at once and be able to plan and prioritise project workload.

About the team
IT Operations and Security is a growing team at Downing with the primary goal of improving operational efficiency across the business. The team is also responsible for Information Security, Data Governance, and ISO accreditation, this role will have some involvement in these areas.
Role and responsibilities
The IT Operations Assistant serves as a central coordinating role, facilitating the effective functioning of the IT department by providing support in procurement, inventory management, logistics, record keeping, and compliance. Although this position is not exclusively technical, it is integral to IT delivery, bridging people, processes, and systems within the organisation.
Participation in ongoing training, professional development and compliance training in line with an FCA-registered business would be expected.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Operational and administrative support
- Maintain and update records, databases, and documentation related to IT operations.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of IT process documentation, checklists and standard operating procedures.
- Help draft and update user guides, FAQs, and training materials for internal systems and tools (e.g., ClickUp, ITOS, Power BI, SharePoint)
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth execution of IT initiatives
- Collate and prepare data used for IT operational reporting.
Inventory procurement
- Help with the procurement and inventory management of IT assets.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely replenishment of stock.
- Conduct regular audits of inventory to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Managing couriers
- Coordinate and manage courier services for the IT department, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of equipment.
- Track and document all shipments and resolve any issues related to courier services, including delays or lost items.
Induction and access setup
- Facilitate onboarding of new starters: ensure access to ClickUp, ITOS, Power BI, and shared folders.
- Support leavers’ processes and maintain system access hygiene
