The Downing Renewable Energy platform was purpose-built to deliver high-quality tailored solutions that suit our clients’ portfolio needs, risk appetite and reporting requirements.

We employ a fully integrated team of 40+ professionals focusing on investments, project development & delivery and asset management. Clients have access to different renewable generation technologies, investment stages and geographies through a range of funds and bespoke individual solutions.

Case studies

Downing Hydro AB (Sweden) – c.£60m

Wholly owned business. €64.5m investment in a portfolio of eight hydropower plants, combined annual production of c.108GWh. Hydropower plants spread across three different rivers and two different price zones in Sweden. Downing Hydro AB has been the platform for subsequent expansion in the hydropower space in Sweden.

Chalkhill – Operational ground mount and rooftop solar (UK) – c.£40m

Control investment (100% equity). 96 MWp portfolio across a combination of c.50 Ground-mount, commercial and residential rooftop Solar PV assets in England, Wales and Scotland. Combination of subsidies and hedging strategies serve to minimise merchant risk exposure for the portfolio, providing stable revenue streams.

Nursling – Construction battery storage (UK) – c.£20m

One of the largest battery storage projects of its type in the UK when developed. 50MW transmission-connected battery project currently under construction. Based in Southampton with additional opportunities to provide power to a private network. Controlling investment.

Gabrielsberget Syd Wind Farm (Sweden) – c.£20m

Wholly owned business. Bilateral process. Onshore wind farm in north-east Sweden with a capacity of 46MW and expected to generate c.108GWh of renewable energy per annum. Established track record with more than 10 years of operations.
